A pair of Regency brass mounted rosewood etagere pedestals in the manner of George Oakley, following a William Chambers design.
Note: The pedestals retain the original brass galleries. The drawers of each pedestal retain the original fitted glazed frame covers concealed within them.
The quality of craftsmanship on these pedestals is outstanding. Two hidden drawers on each pedestal are cleverly concealed in the frieze and the lower shelf. The drawers are locked by a brass stay identical to locking stays used on cabinet doors of the period and accessed from the underside of each drawer front. Each drawer is precisely fitted and functions as a display case. The drawers are lined with cork and paper on the bottom and are closed at the top with a glazed frame cover. To ensure that each drawer is returned to the correct housing, the undersides of the drawer fronts are incised with the Roman-style numerals ‘I’ to ‘IIII’.
