Note: Almost certainly by Thomas Chippendale, the chairs have been re-gilded.

Without further information, the original commission for these chairs remains unknown, but the chairs feature many Chippendale characteristics. They are constructed of lime wood, Chippendale’s preferred material for chairs of this type. Mahogany corner blocks are inserted into the back frame, joining the upright stiles with the horizontal crest rail and lower back support. The chairs also feature clamp cuts to the underside of the frame; this practice was not exclusive to Chippendale, but few other workshops of the time applied it. Furthermore, the arms are set back from the front where they join the side rails, and lastly, they feature typical Chippendale C-scrolls at the knuckle of the arm just before the padding.
