A pair of Qing dynasty cloisonne enamel panels depicting a dramatic scene of martial conflict.
The design is probably inspired by a Peking Opera performance based on the Ming dynasty novel The Three Heroes and Five Gallants, particularly the celebrated episode of the ‘Five Rats Causing Havoc in Kaifeng’. The Peking Opera was started and became very popular during the Qianlong period.
The impressive size of these panels makes them rare articles.
