A Qing dynasty mirror painting in a giltwood frame attributed to Linnell.
The giltwood frame belongs to a small group of frames of varying sizes from Ditchley Park, all sharing the same distinctive owl and caduceus cresting. The light yet strong design is typical of the output of the Linnell workshop, with characteristically superior carving to the details.
Related designs can be found among the Linnell drawings preserved at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
